Bangsa Portugis pertama kali menginjakkan kakinya di pantai Selatan Maumere tepatnya di Desa Ipir, Kecamatan Bola, Kabupaten Sikka, Flores, Nusa Tenggara Timur (NTT). Hal itu ditandai dengan adanya Watu Krus ( Batu Salib) yang berada tepat di Ipir, Pantai Selatan Maumere. Hingga kini, Watu Krus itu masih berdiri kokoh meski selalu diterjang ombak. Masyarakat Desa Bola pun menjaga dan merawat Watu Krus dengan baik. Watu Krus tersebut dipercaya merupakan jejak dan peninggalan suci dari Bangsa Portugis di tempat. Dari Maumere menuju Watu Krus jaraknya sekitar 26 kilometer. Perjalanan ke tempat itu hanya membutuhkan waktu 30 menit. Karena letaknya di pantai Selatan, berkunjung di tempat itu, tidak hanya menyaksikan Watu Krus, kamu juga akan menikmati keindahan pantai yang sungguh memanjakan mata.

The Portuguese nation first set foot on the South coast of Maumere to be precise in Bola Village, Bola District, Sikka Regency, Flores, East Nusa Tenggara (NTT). This is marked by the presence of the Watu Krus (Stone of the Cross) which is located right at Bola, South Beach of Maumere. Until now, Watu Krus is still standing strong even though it is always being hit by the waves. The people of Bola Village also look after and care for Watu Krus well. The Watu Krus is believed to be a trace and sacred relic of the Portuguese on the spot. From Maumere to Watu Krus the distance is about 26 kilometers. The trip to that place only takes 30 minutes.
